Hi, I want to Introduce CISCO Jabber to my enviroment, but I have no Idea were to start. For example do I need to configure this in the call manager or CUPS. UMKC Information Services has introduced a new unified communication tool that will include voice and chat capabilities. One of the key benefits of Jabber is that it can be used as a softphone with a headset to completely replace the traditional desk phone. This will help the University reduce phone costs and provide greater flexibility for Faculty and Staff. Jabber will also allow you to use your University phone line while working remotely from off-campus.
    Cisco Jabber is a software application that provides chat (instant messaging), voice communication and video calling using your computer or mobile device. Supported platforms include Windows, Mac OSX, iOS, and Android. Features include:
    • One-to-one and group chat
    • Offline Chat – send messages to people even when they are offline
    • File transfers
    • Face-to-face video calling
    • Share your desktop, documents, plans, or presentations

Who is eligible to use Jabber?

    Jabber is licensed for all UMKC Faculty/Staff. Jabber can be used as a softphone for Faculty/Staff that have an active University phone extension.
    If user requires multiple lines, you cannot currently switch to the Jabber softphone. Please check back for updates and changes to this policy.
Jabber clients need to be configured for phone extensions assigned directly to faculty and staff. Shared lines are ineligible for Jabber.
Apple iOS
  1. Go to the Apple App store and install Cisco Jabber
  2. Accept all of the permission prompts
  3. Open the Jabber app
  4. Accept the End User License Agreement
  5. Swipe to the last page of the overview, then tap Get Started Now
  6. Enter your email address (username@umkc.edu) then tap Continue
  7. Enter your UMKC username password then tap Sign In

Android
  1. Go to the Google Play store and install Cisco Jabber
  2. Open the Jabber app
  3. Accept the End User License Agreement
