The arrangement of Out of the Abyss is with the end goal that the characters need have no associations with occasions in the Underdark, or with one another, preceding the beginning of the experience. They can meet and become acquainted with one another as detainees of the drow. Players who might want their characters to have a more grounded Underdark association can browse the foundation choices in addendum A.

“Detainees of the Drow” accepts the characters start at first level, and that they will accomplish second level (if not third) before the finish of the experience. Given the difficulties of the experience and the threats of the Underdark, you can begin the characters at a more elevated level (second or third) to make things somewhat simpler for the players.

The Underdark is a popular setting for your D&D sessions to take place. It’s a perfect place for exploration and battles, delving deeper and deeper into the forgotten depths. Any number of classic D&D monsters make their home there (because honestly, something like a Grell wandering around in broad daylight would highlight just how ridiculous it is.)
